President - June Kinniburgh

June is a strong community advocate for issues related to food security. After fifteen years in the health care nutrition field June has dedicated her time and skills to Feed the Need in Durham. June past contributions include Chair/Coordinator of Feed the Need in Durham's Network & Steering Committee, secretary and vice-president of the board. June post-degree certificate in food security, her past contributions as a committee member to the People's Food Policy Project, member of Food Secure Canada's Steering Committee service on other locally based committees and current contributions as a member of the Durham Region Food Policy Council bode well for her dedication to making food a right for all. June is a section designer/course lead and instructor at Durham College and a program coordinator at a local social service agency. June is a Certified Teacher & Trainer of Adults, Professional Home Economist (P.H.Ec.) and a Certified Nutrition Manager (N.M.).

Vice-President - Sita Gardner

Sita Gardner is a lecturer in the Centre for the Critical Study of Global Power and Politics at Trent University. Formerly the President of Kessgard, she was instrumental in transforming a small company into a recognized producer of quality malleable iron castings for the construction industry, the trans-Canada pipelind and the railroad. She has also served as Director for Secan Properties acting as an advisor on strategic assessments and analysis on acquisitions for the company.

With approximately 26 years of community service, Sita has focused mainly on fundraising by recruiting both industry and financial institutions to participate in providing sustainability to charitable organizations. Some of her other past and present contributions include being a mentor and guide to university students (Masters programs), Board Member, CNIB Durham, teaching ESL and conducting workshops, President of the Parents' Guild, and member of the Board of Directors for Trafalgar Castle School, including volunteering at Oxfam, U.K.

Sita speaks several languages, has travelled extensively, and has numerous hobbies and interests.

Treasurer - Bernard Sittlinger

Bernard is a Chartered Accountant for Maracle Press Limited in Oshawa as well as a Certified Public Accountant. Bernard has managed all aspects of accounting including records, financial statements, budgets, credit and collections, employee benefits and company pension plans. To complement Bernard’s career he is highly involved with his Church and was responsible for establishing the Canadian office of audit service for the Seventh-day Adventist Church, is Chairperson of the Finance Committee and Assistant Director for the Durham Trailblazers Pathfinders Club.

Director - Kelly Weeks

Kelly is has been employed with the Canadian Mental Health Association Durham as the Team Leader for Rehabilitation and Older Adult Services for the past 13 years. Kelly currently sits also on the Durham Community Legal Clinic Board of Directors and belongs to several other community initiatives and committees. Kelly has past experience in the non-profit and community sectors as both an employee and volunteer throughout Durham Region. Kelly enjoys spending time with her family and is very involved with volunteering and her community and is an advocate for fundraising for Sick Kids Hospital, through such events as the Trinidy Weeks Walk-a-thon in memory of her daughter.

Director - Luxy Thuraisingam

Luxy Thuraisingam is currently a Senior Marketing Manager at TELUS Communications. She is responsible for strategic marketing within the Enterprise segment, which includes both sales support and brand management.

Luxy has over 10 years of Marketing Communications experience in various sectors, including not for profit and agency side. Her background includes direct marketing, research, social media, public relations, and strategic planning. She's also had the opportunity to work on a few large campaigns that have received award recognition. Recently, she was nominated and had the chance to participate in a mentorship program with one of the top 100 women in Canada.

Ms. Thuraisingam received her Hons. BSc from University of Toronto and was awarded her MBA from University of London, England. In her spare time, Luxy enjoys spending time with her newborn twins, and reading.

Director - Punam Mohindra

Punam is a CGA with extensive experience in participating in or/and overseeing the activities within the overall financial management process in large diverse industries. Along with past experience of volunteering for the Citizen Review Panel of the United Way of Durham, for more than a decade, Punam has ensured regulatory compliance in corporate settings, helped in the executive decision process in providing strategic planning, developing and implementing policies for the organization, and ensuring that the organization fulfills its mandate.

Director - Frances Thompson

Frances has worked as a registered nurse for over 30 years in the community. She has worked with families living in poverty with food security issues. Frances is an advocate for families and is well aware of community resources that support these issues.

Director - Edith Alger

Edith Alger is an entrepreneur who has volunteered in Durham Region to improve the community for over 40 years. During this time she has lent her years of experience and expertise to organizations such as the YWCA where she was the chair of the board. Edith volunteered for the Heart and Stroke Foundation in which she was a founding member of the board and became chair. She also chaired the board for the Canadian Red Cross and Info Oshawa. Edith was a member of the Board of Governors for Durham College and on the founding committee for UOIT. She also became involved with Windreach Farm and chaired the Board of Directors before moving to volunteer with the Foundation Committee. Edith was chair of Council at Columbus Community United Church. She volunteered on the board of United Way and participated in the United Way leadership training course. Edith has been the recipient of the Queen's medal for volunteering twice and is a Rotary Harris Fellow.
