DONATIONS

Help feed a hungry person in Durham Region!

I would like to donate $

Give where it's needed most

There are many people who access food banks and soup kitchens throughout the year. They come from all walks of life. For example, some are homeless, while others have lived happy middle-class lives until they lost their jobs. Almost 20% of food bank recipients have jobs and work; they just don't earn enough money to pay for rent and groceries. Have you ever had to choose between paying rent or buying food?

Feed a child for a day

40% of food bank recipients are children. Thank you for giving them a chance for a healthy, well-fed childhood. The Canadian Food Guide recommends a child should have 4-6 servings of vegetables and fruit, 3-6 servings of grains, 204 servings or milk (or alternatives) and 1-2 servings of meat (or alternatives) per day.

Buy a food hamper

Give the gift of a food hamper to a family of four.

Donate food to a university or college student

Help a student trying to live on a student loan. Young people studying hard at school need good nutrition to pass their courses. Some students have no other means of support other than a government loan. A food bank on U.O.I.T. campus helps students in need of food.

Help a senior

Help someone whose only means of support is Old Age Security. Drop into a food bank or soup kitchen at the end of the month before government cheques arrive and you will see seniors sitting amongst the homeless and others. The cost of shelter is so expensive they just can't afford the roof over their head and food.

Help buy a truck

At Feed the Need in Durham we have access to fresh fruits and vegetables as well as some dairy products. In order to transport these groceries safely we require a refrigerator truck. Companies will only donate fresh items if they are transported safely at regulated temperatures. Your donation will assist in helping us maintain our source of free produce and dairy.

Charitable tax receipts will be issued for donations over $10.00. Please note that donations are processed monthly and receipts issued at the end of each month. Alternately, you may request one receipt at the end of the year.
